The Ultimate Warrior’s Crash the Plane Promo

Let’s start with something everyone can agree on: the Ultimate Warrior was one of the strangest talkers in wrestling history.

See, pro wrestling requires two primary skills. Obviously, you need to be able to perform in the ring. But you also need to be able to talk on the microphone. Unfortunately, the Ultimate Warrior was not much of an in-ring performer, and as you’ll see in the clip, his microphone skills are either the worst or best ever — depending on who you ask.

His infamous “Crash the Plane” promo came in the lead-up to his main event match with Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania VI on April 1, 1990.

The two were set on a collision course for an epic battle. Hogan had been the big hero of the 80s, helping to launch WWE (then called the WWF) into the pop culture stratosphere. But head honcho Vince McMahon needed a new top guy, as Hogan was leaving for Hollywood.

The Ultimate Warrior, with his incredible physique, was picked as that guy.

But he was quite the odd duck. So bizarre that it’s hard to stop watching him.
