The Satyam Computer Services scandal occurred in 2009, and the tech industry was rattled when Byrraju Ramalinga Raju admitted that the accounts for the company had been falsified. Raju was the chairman of Satyam, and he scandalized the corporate community when he admitted that he had manipulated accounts worth nearly $1 million.
Though the amount was under $1 million, the fines that came as a result of the falsification were not. The SEC fined Satyam $6 million, stating that the company had failed to follow auditing standards and the code of conduct. Price Waterhouse, the company that supposedly audited Satyam, was also punished, and the Indian SEB banned Price from auditing any company until 2011.
