Fascinatingly, the book on which His Dark Materials was based was on a “banned books” list, according to the American Library Association in 2008. His Dark Materials has come a long way since then, as it became a successful show on not just HBO, but also BBC One.

Both networks announced in the summer of 2021 that they would be renewing His Dark Materials for a third season. However, there was a catch—the third season would be the show’s last. Production on the third season began in England this year, and, of course, it will be based on the third, final book in the Phillip Pullman series.
