The Guardian described Shrill as “truly radical TV” that was “cancelled before its time.” The show was canceled after the third season, even though the end of the second season was a neater, more finalized endpoint. Still, fans are glad they got a trio of seasons from the Hulu show.

The likely reason behind the cancellation was the 2020 disruption to the entertainment industry. It was hard for a lot of productions to come back from that, especially if those productions weren’t established, long-running shows. The cancellation announcement came after the third season was midway through production in Portland.
