In the early 2000s, Dave Willis, one of the co-creators of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, teamed up with Jim Fortier to write a pilot for a show about hillbilly squids. As much faith as they had had in their creation, even they could not have guessed that the show would have still been on the air into the 2020s.

Williams Street Productions adult animated television series, Squidbillies, aired its pilot episode almost 2 decades ago, in 2005. After 16 years, 13 seasons, 132 episodes, and millions of viewers worldwide, on December 13th, 2021, Squidbillies aired its finale episode.
