Most viewers don’t take much notice of license plates in movies, but perhaps they should. There is one plate, 2GAT123 that has been doing the rounds in Hollywood for years. It’s been seen in movies like Beverly Hills Cop II, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Be Cool, Pay It Forward, and many, many more.

The reason for its widespread use is actually quite interesting. California license plates don’t have GAT in them anymore, so prop masters can use this plate without worrying about a real plate being searched for and the driver’s details identified.
