Released in the mid-1950s, Forbidden Planet was another sci-fi classic that was mind-blowing when it first came out. The movie is still lauded as a make-or-break film for the genre. One of the most well-known props from the film was the Navigation Globe, which was a huge, transparent globe in the center of the movie’s spaceships’ command deck.

The transparent globe was set in a small model of the Forbidden Planet starship, and the central space that housed the globe was the key to the entire setting. Later, this giant prop would make a reappearance in another sci-fi movie, the 1960 film The Time Machine.
