Harmonia Gardens was based on a real-life location, Luchow’s, which was located on 14th Street. The Teutonic, opulent dining palace was one of a few still left, as the majority either burned down or were torn down by wrecking balls. Harmonia Gardens was featured in Hello Dolly, a 1969 movie.

Later, that set would be recycled for a very different movie: Beneath the Planet of the Apes. The upscale set was given a dystopian, post-apocalyptic makeover for the sequel to the blockbuster hit, Planet of the Apes, and few people recognized it after it got its appearance totally changed. But, the bare bones of the set remained the same.
