Rolling down your car’s windows in the summer is more fuel-efficient than turning on the air conditioning. So, if you can bear it in the summer, roll down the front windows instead of blasting the AC. Having your air conditioning on reduces your car’s fuel efficiency anywhere from 3% to 10%.
Though opening your windows increases air resistance, opening the front windows only can help mitigate that aerodynamic problem. Though it’s been a well-repeated myth that air conditioning is more fuel-efficient than rolling down the windows, according to the Society of Automobile Engineers, the opposite is actually true.
