18. High-Rise Farming
What It Does: Optimizes Agricultural Growth
Expected Rollout: Currently In Use
Instead of using floating farms like the dairy farm in Rotterdam, in order to optimize the space that is used to grow fresh produce, some cities have opted to develop high-rise farms. As a result of the method in which the products are grown, these vertical farms are able to produce crops all year round, providing more than double the product of a normal farm that produces season to season.
Grown exclusively indoors, high-rise farms use a network of lights that emanate artificial sunlight, as well as the waste from the animals that are reared in the same complex, in order to grow the crops hydroponically.
