Virtual reality (VR) has been one of the most coveted technologies to perfect, and for good reason – it’s a way to escape from the real world while never leaving the comfort of one’s own home. And, now, researchers from Northwestern University might have developed a way to add the sense of touch to the virtual world.

The prototype that’s been designed will be able to do just that. It’s a 6-inch by 6-inch silicone polymer that sticks to the skin and has 32 tiny vibrators, that use near-field communication tech, in order to transfer data from the VR program to the polymer. Imagine playing a video game and feeling a pinch on the shoulder when the character’s shoulder gets hit – this device will have the capability.
