Using the same idea as the CRISPR enzyme Cas12, a team of researchers at Stanford University developed a portable lab measuring no larger than a few square centimeters, but still capable of doing some amazing things.

Lab-on-a-chip (LOC) provides several lab-related functions – one of which includes the ability to handle enough fluids to perform accurate diagnosis for a variety of ailments by focusing the CRISPR enzyme on the desired genetic marker. They’re also insanely cheap to make – costing a measly 1 cent per unit.
