Sometimes a TV show based on a movie becomes so popular that most people don’t realize it was a movie in the first place. Friday Night Lights was a series that aired on NBC and The 101 Network from 2006 to 2011 to critical acclaim, but two years before it came to fruition it was a movie starring Billy Bob Thornton.

Both the movie and the series were based on the book of the same name by H. G. Bissinger. And, perhaps most importantly, both were incredibly financially successful. Kyle Chandler won an Emmy for his efforts on the TV project, while Thornton was praised for his performance.
