Before Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a wildly successful teen show, it was a mildly successful teen movie. Joss Whedon created the original premise and, dissatisfied with the delivery of the movie, decided to create the TV show in 1997. Sarah Michelle Gellar was cast in the lead role, a decision Whedon wouldn’t regret.
