At first glance, Black Dynamite might look like a ‘70s movie, but it was actually made in 2009. Produced to both pay homage to similar movies of that era and poke fun at them, Black Dynamite didn’t exactly kick butt at the box office.

Despite its financial failure, there was enough of a fanbase for Adult Swim to announce a cartoon series of the same name shortly after the movie’s release. The show carried on for two seasons before it was eventually canceled in 2015.
