While critical consensus was split, it was a commercial success. What’s more, the subsequent TV show released in 1997, Stargate SG-1, became a hugely popular endeavor that ran for 10 years. Sony stepped in to produce it for one season, but it was the cast that made it the shining star it was. Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks remain firm fan favorites to this day.
