The main cause behind I-25’s deadliness is human error. Congestion, speeding, distracted driving, and DUIs are the main causes of crashes. In 2013 alone, there were more than five wrong-way crashes on I-25 in a short span of time. According to the Albuquerque Journal, it’s not just I-25; New Mexico is the second-worst state in the country for dangerous drivers.
