Most Dangerous Roads Ever Built

46. Vitim River Bridge, Siberia

Constructed: 1982
Risk Factor: Narrow, road in bad condition

The Vitim River itself is deadly. The waters are fast-moving and unpredictable, so a road crossing the river wouldn’t be anything less than treacherous. The bridge is in horrible condition, and, even in its better sections, it is still as narrow as the wheelbase of a car.

The Vitim River Bridge is an old train bridge, built to cross the Siberian Vitim River. It is made of wood, which explains why it fell into disrepair so quickly. The bridge stretches 1,870 feet, and it is just five feet above river level. The bridge is currently undergoing repairs, but even those are dangerous to undertake because of the Siberian weather, so the builders have no choice but to move at a snail’s pace.
