The Hai Van Pass is located in the Thua Thien Hue province of Vietnam. The road travels through the larger Annamite Range, which juts into Vietnam’s East Sea. The Hai Van Pass is 1,627 feet above sea level, and it is part of the National Route 1A.

The Hai Van Pass might give driver’s a bird’s eye view of Vietnam, but the winding route is no joke, especially when there is poor visibility. When mists come off the sea, the visibility decreases, making the twists and turns particularly dangerous. The route takes between three and five hours to complete—longer if the mists are rising.
