The Fengcheng Power Plant did not last long. Construction began in mid-December of 2015, and Fengcheng was projected to be Jiangxi, China’s largest power plant. The $113 billion project was part of the Five-Year Plan, which the Chinese government developed to boost the national economy and develop the country’s infrastructure.

Nearly a year after construction began, a construction platform collapsed at the power plant, killing seventy-four people and injuring two. The death toll was high because sixty people were working on the platform, while another dozen were waiting below to begin their 7 AM shift. They were standing directly under the cooling tower’s platform when it fell.
