Built: 1901
Collapsed: 2013
Est. Damages: Unknown

The Apollo Theatre, located in the West End of London, was built in 1901. The building was more than a century old when it collapsed, and the cause of the collapse was due to the age of the building. The old cloth and plaster ties, which held up the Apollo’s timber frames, gave way in December of 2013.

Witnesses said that forty-five minutes into a performance, parts of the ceiling crumbled and fell. Attendees said the scene was a madhouse of chaos and panic as people tried to escape the building. Nearly eighty people were injured, seven of whom were seriously hurt.
