The Thane Building collapse was the worst in the history of Thane, Maharashtra, India. The building was under construction at the time of the collapse, and there was no occupancy certificate for the structure. However, between 100 and 150 were living there anyway, even though it wasn’t fit for residential purposes.

The majority of the people living at the Thane Building were workers and their families. In addition to unlawful occupation, the Thane Building was illegally constructed, as it didn’t meet the standards for safe construction. After the collapse, which killed seventy-four people, eighteen of whom were children, fifteen suspects were arrested.
