Water features, such as outdoor fountains, ponds, and rock pools, are often a seller’s go-to when they’re thinking of an attention-getting feature. However, these water features have downsides that will not go unnoticed by potential buyers. Though they’re unique focal points, the practical realities of these fountains and ponds can make them burdensome.

Firstly, water invites pests like mosquitoes and flies. Secondly (and most importantly for home-resale purposes), water features require a lot of maintenance, and they’re often like a miniature pool. If the water feature has been installed improperly or is poorly designed, take those maintenance costs and double them. The potential headache won’t be worth it to would-be buyers.
