Before 2004, The Boston Red Sox were believed to be cursed. Yes, really. Their lack of a World Series win was blamed on the Curse of the Bambino. Because they traded Babe Ruth in 1918, the city was meant to suffer a baseball drought that was made more evident when Bill Buckner botched a play during game six in 1986. When recounting the story of how all Buckner had to do was field a simple grounder to end the game only to let the ball roll into right field, many fans in Boston neglect to mention that they still had an entire game seven to wrap it up. For that reason, Buckner really didn’t get a fair shake. Bostonians went on for many decades getting owned by the New York Yankees which grew into a hate targeted towards Derek Jeter. They have since gone on to break the curse, but poor Buckner is still talked about unlike their NFL cheating scandals. Speaking of their NFL team, let this be a friendly reminder that Eli Manning beat them. Twice.
