The Scottish player made a mistake that cost him his image at the national level. In the 80’s, Scotland had one of the most infamous derbies in the world when Celtic clashed with Rangers. In this context, Johnston became an idol at Celtic Park (Celtic’s stadium) and, after having several offers, the Scottish player decided to move to France, where Nantes acquired his services.
However, when Mo wanted to return to Scotland, hoping that his team would welcome him, he declared that “Celtic is the only place where I want to play”, but when he received an offer from rival club Rangers, he did not hesitate to make a sharp turn in his career and sign for the same club. Johnston is hated to this day for his betrayal at Celtic Park.
