The Most Dangerous (And Expensive) Airports Ever Built

46. Hondarribia Airport – San Sebastián, Spain

Year of construction: 1955
Risk factors: Closeness to the city

The authorities have declared this airport one of the most dangerous in Spain. The reason for this designation is that the routes Honodarribia uses to land and take off pass through the busiest places in Hendaye and Irún, two major Spanish towns.

The proximity to these cities has caused incidents with birds, which sometimes crash into airplanes. Fortunately, this has not caused any serious problems to date; however, there is a risk that these collisions will happen in the future. As if that weren’t enough, the airplanes also pass dangerously close to the masts of nearby sailing ships.
