The Most Dangerous (And Expensive) Airports Ever Built

66. Corfu International Airport – Corfu, Greece

Year of construction: 1937
Risk factors: Small runway, bad reputation

This one is interesting, as it’s a case of whether its “most dangerous” reputation is actually earned or not. Corfu Airport has just one small runway, which measures 7,874 feet long. This condition certainly causes pilots some stress, as they have to navigate that small space safely.

However, as AtCorfu.com points out, this reputation might not be earned, as there has never been a single accident at Corfu. The airport has been in business since World War II, where it was used as a base for Italian and German forces’ fighter aircraft. During WWII, the runway measured just 1,968 feet.
