68. Moshoeshoe I. International Airport – Lesotho
Year of construction: 2000s
Risk factors: Short runway with displaced threshold, facilities in disrepair
The Moshoeshoe International Airport, located in Mazenod, Lesotho, is currently in a race against time to get the airport up to code. The International Civil Aviation Organization is threatening to shut down Moshoeshoe because it doesn’t meet high standards.
Moshoeshoe’s facilities are in disrepair, and the airport is also understaffed. Moshoeshoe’s runways are in bad shape as well. The runway length at the airport is just 656 feet, and there is a displaced threshold there as well. The Lesotho government is focused on rehabilitating the runways and facilities in time to avoid ICAO closing the venue for good.
