The Most Dangerous (And Expensive) Airports Ever Built

81. Indira Gandhi International Airport – India

Year of construction: 1962
Risk factors: Congestion

The Indira Gandhi International Airport has teamed up with HOI, a passenger engagement platform, to try to fix safety concerns. The airport said that it created an app for mobile phones that would let passengers track flights and get alerts in real-time about delays or congestion.

The airport has often faced criticism over the congestion levels, and SKYTRAX reviews found that it got just a 5/10 stars. However, the airport has still managed to clean up at awards ceremonies, and it won the “Best Airport” award in 2015 from the Airports Council International. Its rankings have improved over the years, and perhaps the HOI app will help.
