Happy Gilmore
Viewers loved Happy Gilmore for all of the reasons his fictional competitors hated him: He made golf fun. Back when this movie was released, golf was still seen as some stuffy, old guy sport where fans were encouraged to keep quiet. Not Happy’s fans, however. They were whooping it up near the green like college students at a tailgate party. Because of Happy, golf finally became calm. As much as the old guy crew wanted Happy off the tour, the folks who make money knew that keeping him on would be much better for their wallets. Even taking a beating from Bob Barker was not enough to put Happy in his place. He made every tournament look like the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale.
